Protect the Arctic

Reaching out to your State Congressional delegates is a great way to let them know what issues are a top priority for you as one of their constituents. The Alaska delegation has worked hard to open the Refuge to drilling, and they continue to state publicly that Alaskans are in favor of this move. Join us from your home state as we amplify the cry to defend the sacred lands of the Arctic Refuge. Donate to help us spread this message at DefendTheSacredAlaska.org >>>

Additional Talking Points:

  • The Arctic Refuge has been protected by Congress for 60 years and by Indigenous peoples for millennia before that. The climate impacts of fossil fuel extraction in the Arctic are not worth the risk!

  • 40,000 caribou give birth in the so-called 1002 area of the Arctic Refuge each year. This is a main source of food security for Gwich'in people. Disturbing the birthgrounds of the Porcupine Caribou herd impacts migration routes, population, and health.

  • This is a human rights issue, food security issue, and climate justice issue. The health impacts and social impacts will negatively affect the Indigenous Peoples of the Arctic both directly and indirectly through food and air quality. The Gwich'in Nation has been advocating for protection of the Arctic for decades. We need to listen to Land Protectors and keep this place protected.
