Welcome to Lives Robbed. My name is Kimberly Mata-Rubio, Lexi's mom and president of Lives Robbed. My story began on May 24, 2022, when an 18-year-old armed with an assault weapon walked into Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, and murdered 19 students, including my 10-year-old daughter, and two teachers.
Though I've relived the hours before he entered classrooms 112 and 111, wondering what I could have done differently to change the outcome, nothing will bring my daughter back. Instead, I have made it my mission to honor Lexi's life with action. I, along with several other family members of victims, formed Lives Robbed, a group of moms fighting to halt the epidemic of gun violence plaguing the United States. We have rallied, marched, and worked with legislators to enact stricter gun laws at the state and federal level. What we've learned on this journey is that nothing worth fighting for comes easily. We have a long fight ahead of us and we are thankful to have you as an ally.
As an ally, each month, we will issue a letter with instructions and helpful tips to advocate, whether you are doing so from the comfort of your own home or knocking on doors at the Capitol.
On behalf of the Lives Robbed board, welcome, and stay tuned!
