This blatant attempt to criminalize homelessness and poverty in Sacramento is dangerous, a waste of resources, and will cause harm to our most vulnerable neighbors.
Join Sacramentans in calling on City Councilmembers Eric Guerra (city district 6) and Rick Jennings (district 7) to rescind their proposal for this ban.
Help spread the word about this using our social media toolkit: sunrisesac.org/no-ban/share
Thanks to your pressure, we won a victory in pushing City Councilmember Eric Guerra into removing his proposed daytime camping ban from the Jan 16th Law & Legislation Committee agenda - that's huge! We stopped it for now, but it could still come back in the same form or potentially with revised ordinance language at a future date.
We don't want to see a citywide daytime camping ban come back at all, so keep signing on and adding your comments if you haven't already, spread the word and we'll keep pushing him to commit not to bring back a ban that would harm and criminalize our most vulnerable neighbors.
Submit the quick contact information and use the optional tool on this page to communicate your opposition to this proposal. We will notify Councilmembers Eric Guerra and Rick Jennings who are leading this proposed ordinance and let them know that you oppose it. We will also contact the offices of City Councilmembers Katie Valenzuela (district 4) and Lisa Kaplan (district 1), the two other members of the Law & Legislation Committee who will be voting on this.
Note: Using a legal name is not required! The name, zip code, and email address you provide may be visible, and your email address may be used as a method of contact. Your information and message will not be added to the public record as part of public comment, we will send it directly to City Councilmembers and their staff.
On January 16th there will be a City of Sacramento Law & Legislation Committee meeting discussing the proposed ordinance. If you would like to attend and provide a live verbal comment that is welcome and encouraged! Check out the resources around Local Politics 101, Public Comment, and the city website to keep track of when the meeting agenda is made public.
