In 1968, Congress established the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System to preserve certain rivers with outstanding natural, cultural, and recreational values in a free-flowing condition for present and future generations to enjoy. American Whitewater has been working hard over the ensuing half-century to designate additional miles of Wild and Scenic Rivers to create a diverse and robust system of preserved rivers that our entire country can be proud of.
