Support the Elm Gardens tenants fight against displacement at the Takoma Metro station

Tell the DC Zoning Commission that this is how we stop displacement and provide more affordable housing opportunities at Takoma Metro.

The DC Zoning Commission is considering a proposal from the Elm Gardens tenant association and their non-profit partner to replace their aging 36-unit rental apartment building into a new, 4-story 100% affordable, accessible 80-unit building.

The new building would be modestly larger than the current building; however, some neighbors are still objecting. This is despite the currently redesigned proposal now being only 4 stories, having lost 30 affordable units in the downsizing from the originally proposed 110-unit building.

This 4-story redevelopment proposal not only saves existing low income tenants from displacement, but rebuilds their building with a modern elevator building that more than doubles the number of affordable homes, and includes eight units for permanent supportive housing to provide homes to formerly unhoused people.

This site is ideal for increasing housing opportunities given its proximity to major transit lines, and walk/bicycle access to local services. The building's design even imrpoves the sidewalk environment.

Tell the Zoning Commission this is the kind of new housing opportunity we need.
