Axis Community Health began in 1972 as a health center for low-income children in Eastern Alameda County without access to health care. Since 1972, Axis has become a comprehensive health center that provides care from five sites throughout the Tri-Valley area. In 2009, Axis received a Federally Qualified Community Health Center (FQHC) designation from the US Department of Health and Human Services. As an FQHC, Axis has earned various awards for clinical achievement from the Bureau of Primary Health Care, including recognition as being in the top 10% for quality of care of all community health centers nationwide.
