I'm writing today to encourage you to support New Hampshire’s caregiver respite and senior volunteer programs in the state budget. Investing in these existing, high-impact programs will help our older adults remain living in our communities.

Family caregivers are essential to our state's long-term services and supports (LTSS) system. An estimated 168,000 Granite State caregivers provide essential care to their loved ones, but it often comes with a cost: stress, burnout, and physical illness. Funding for the ADRD (Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders) caregiver respite services will allow caregivers to rest, recharge, and continue to provide quality care to their family members and avoid more costly long-term care services.

New Hampshire's senior volunteer programs address community needs, providing services like companionship, transportation, and mentorship, benefiting both the individuals served and the volunteers. They are also cost-effective, with an estimated return of $8 for every $1 invested. Maintaining funding for programs that keep people in the community makes sense.

For these reasons, I urge you to support these existing programs to strengthen New Hampshire communities and build a more supportive and resilient LTSS system. Thank you for your consideration.
