Jewish Democratic Council of America
Tell Donald Trump to Protect Jewish Americans from Antisemitic Violence

On June 1, at an event raising awareness for Israeli hostages still held in Gaza, a man used incendiary devices to injure 12 peaceful demonstrators, including a Holocaust survivor. This attack, which occurred just two weeks after a deadly attack outside the DC Capital Jewish Museum, is the latest in a pattern of antisemitic violence that must come to an immediate end.

Donald Trump's response to this attack did not mention antisemitism, Jewish Americans, or the Jewish community. Instead, Trump focused on the aspects of the Boulder attack that fit his political agenda, which 74% of American Jews reject. Every leader – especially the president – who claims to care about the safety of Jewish Americans should vigorously condemn these attacks and take concrete action to fight antisemitism in all its forms.

We call on Trump to:

1. Call attacks against Jewish Americans what they are: Antisemitic violence. Rather than releasing vague statements, Trump must acknowledge and condemn antisemitism on all sides of the aisle.

2. Fully fund Nonprofit Security Grants – to secure our synagogues and Jewish institutions – and efforts to combat hate crimes. Trump's budget request to Congress fails to increase the Nonprofit Security Grant Program, slashes funding for two hate crime prevention grant programs, and recommends a cut to the Office of Civil Rights at the Department of Education, which is responsible for investigating antisemitism claims. As antisemitism continues to rise, we demand that these programs be fully funded and strengthened.

3. Force those officials with antisemitic records out of his administration. While Trump claims to care about American Jews, his own administration is filled with people who uplift antisemitic theories and have ties to antisemitic extremists, including Kingsley Wislon, a prolific purveyor of antisemitic conspiracies who was recently promoted to press secretary at the Department of Defense.

4. Stop using antisemitism as a pretext for deportations, defunding of universities, and attacks on our democracy. Immediately following the attack in Boulder, Trump tweeted that we must “deport Illegal, Anti-American Radicals.” The Jewish community deserves a leader who understands the urgency of combating antisemitism by taking tangible action rather than using our pain to promote an extreme agenda.

Sign below to demand that Trump stand with the Jewish community; unequivocally reject antisemitism, no matter what side of the aisle it is on; and take concrete action to combat antisemitism.
