Tariffs are taxes paid on imported goods. Think of them as toll booths for stuff like raw materials, appliances, toys—you name it. When products pass through, U.S. importers (not foreign exporters) foot the bill, adding a layer of cost before items hit the shelves.
On March 4, 2025, President Donald Trump enacted tariffs on all imports from Canada, Mexico, and China and on April 2nd, so called "liberation day" he went much further, imposing tariffs on hundreds of countries across the world—the level of tariffs shifts seemingly by the hour across product categories and is adding chaos across supply chains.
The Main Street Alliance is compiling data and experiences from small business owners affected by across-the-board tariffs. Please share how tariffs are impacting you and your small business. This information will be utilized to inform our advocacy efforts and may be shared with Congressional staff. At the end of the survey, you have the option of indicating if you'd be comfortable with us sharing your responses to the press to help tell the story of the impact of these tariffs.
