President Trump will reportedly make a trip to the Rio Grande Valley this Tuesday in the middle of congressional action to impeach him for his role in stoking mob violence at the Capitol last week.
Border communities rightly see his trip as an immediate threat to community safety and security. It is also part of a long pattern of white supremacist violence at the southern border that right-wing politicians have taken advantage of for political gain.
We are calling on the Alamo Mayor Diana Martinez, Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra, and McAllen Mayor Jim Darling to refuse cooperation with Trump and demand they cancel his visit.
We cannot allow Trump to bring his racist mob violence to the Rio Grande Valley. He has used border communities to fan the flames of racist violence since day one in office. Local officials must denounce his visit, call on him to cancel, and refuse to coordinate his visit with DHS. Should any violence occur on Tuesday, all public officials who did nothing to stop this visit will be responsible.
We know how to keep our communities safe. We counter right-wing violence by creating a world where we can all thrive and live without fear. We do that by advancing an agenda of racial justice and solidarity. We will demand a responsive government that dismantles walls and combats border militarization, mobilizes health care and community services, invests in education, neighborhood infrastructure, and green jobs, welcomes newcomers at the border, and protects Black and brown lives from police violence.
Sign this petition to demand the City of Alamo, Hidalgo County Sheriff's office, and the City of McAllen call on Trump to cancel his dangerous stunt to our home.
