The U.S. and Israel maintain a strong and unbreakable bond based on shared security interests and shared values. The Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) supports Israel as a Jewish and democratic state now and forever. JDCA believes that supporting Israel's security and right to self-defense and supporting Palestinian human rights, aid, and safety are not mutually exclusive. We support aid to Israel and oppose steps by Israelis or Palestinians that undermine prospects for peace.

Donald Trump's proposal for the United States to “take over” Gaza and his support for forced displacement of Palestinians is morally reprehensible. Any version of Trump's plan would undermine the long-term security of the United States and Israel, as well as the chances to free the remaining hostages held by Hamas.

Jewish Americans overwhelmingly a political solution to the conflict that maintains Israel's Jewish and democratic character while upholding the rights of the Palestinian people and oppose:

• The re-occupation of Gaza by either the United States or Israel;
• Annexation of the West Bank or Gaza; and
• The forced displacement of Palestinians.
