El Pueblo is a nonprofit organization based in Raleigh, NC, specializing in leadership development for both youth and adults among Wake County's growing Latinx community. Our mission is to build collective power through leadership development, organizing, and direct action so that the Latin American community and other marginalized communities control our own stories and destinies.

RAICES
El Pueblo's 2024 Summer Internship: Raices is a paid opportunity to work alongside El Pueblo's staff for 12 weeks in different roles to support our special projects, community events, communications, and civic engagement work.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Be between the ages of 18-25, either current student, recently graduated, or unable to attend college for any reason related to financial need or immigration status.
  • Live in the Triangle Area of NC for the length of the program (May 13th-Aug 2nd)
  • Must have reliable transportation or ability to coordinate transportation when needed.
  • Any immigration status accepted.
  • Spanish language proficiency is a plus but not required. 

RESPONSIBILITIES
All Interns are expected to:

  • Learn about voter laws and requirements & support voter registration and Get Out The Vote (GOTV) efforts
  • Support El Pueblo's advocacy, especially against anti-immigrant policies 
  • Work a minimum of 30 hours a week & track their hours
  • Develop a work plan and meet with their supervisor(s)
  • Develop an internship long project, with team support
  • Attend in person events including orientation, trainings, and other cohort meetings
  • Work with a team of staff to execute their role (see roles below)

1 Civic Engagement Intern:
Work with the Civic Engagement and Policy Organizers on our Get Out the Vote (GOTV) campaigns, registering voters, conducting civic education workshops, and more. They will join coalition meetings to support strategies on how to organize and combat harmful legislation. They may conduct research on similar policies across the country, create talking points about the legislation, and prepare speeches for committee hearings to lobby for or against different policies.
 
1 Communications Intern: 
Work with the Communications Team to support and promote the communication goals and work of the organization. This role will primarily focus on sharing El Pueblo messaging and educational materials on the organization's communications channels. Among their responsibilities will be to create multimedia content for the organization's social media accounts, evaluate results of content performance, present biweekly reports on emerging social media trends, and lead short form video content creation. Interns will also be expected to provide photography and video support at organizations' events and activities, as they arise. This role will also periodically support in the creation of audio content for podcasts. An openness to participate in media interviews, as needed, is welcomed in this role. Interns will be encouraged to explore new projects and opportunities aligned with personal interests and goals.

1 Community Investment Intern: 
Community ID Drive: Participate at each community ID monthly drive which consists of: assisting in the printing of the ID's, calling & coordinating with ID applicants for the bringing of missing documentation, reaching out to cardholders to get survey answers, support in businesses outreach and maintaining the orientation videos up to date. 
Community Events: Additionally help the Community Investment team with event planning, preparations for events, and working with relevant teams to execute the events.

1 Development & Projects Intern: 
Assists in all aspects of the fundraising process and helps manage the execution of certain tasks in the area of Development and Special Projects. The scope of responsibilities include assisting or managing tasks in the fundraising process assigned to the Development Intern which may include, data entry, programming, fundraising, marketing, sponsorship management, other project related activities (event coordination). The Development Intern will typically work on two to three projects simultaneously. Depending on the size and nature of a project the Development Intern will work directly with the Development and Special Project Manager and/or Operations Team. The Development Intern must be able to work efficiently in a fast paced, multi-task environment.
