Oregon Wild
Restore Protections for Wolves

Trophy hunting and trapping. Bounty hunts. Killing wolf pups.

Heinous acts like these are what pushed wolves to the brink of extinction. State politicians and their bureaucrats across the West have proven they aren't capable of responsible wildlife conservation. Take action to support restoring wolf protections!

As a result of anti-wildlife interests and irresponsible politicians enacting policies like these over the last few years, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) is considering whether wolves in the West warrant relisting under the Endangered Species Act. Clearly, states have proven that they can't be trusted to foster full wolf recovery. Allowing them to continue to make all wolf management decisions could undo years of progress.

How did we get here? As a quick history recap, in 2011 a portion of the nation's wolf population (called the Northern Rocky Mountain wolves) were removed from the federal endangered species list. This included wolves in Eastern Oregon, Eastern Washington, Idaho, and Montana. This was a political decision, not one recommended by the best available science. Meanwhile, wolves throughout the rest of the country remained 'listed'. However, that changed in 2020 as the Trump administration made the wildly unpopular decision to remove those remaining wolves from the endangered species list. That included wolves in Western Oregon, Western Washington, and the rest of the lower 48 states. That particular decision is being litigated in court right now.

The progression of wolf recovery in this country is hardly a straight line. But one thing is certain: over the years, public care, compassion, and advocacy are what have helped ensure wolves get the necessary protections they deserve. That's why I'm asking you to please submit a public comment to the USFWS calling for restored endangered protections for the NRM wolves. We can't allow states to continue down this unethical, unscientific, and unsupported path of destruction.
