Tell NC Lawmakers to end the cycle of traffic debt and license suspension

Right now, we have a chance to support two crucial bills that aim to end the cycle of debt and driver's license suspensions. It's time to raise our voices and take action.

Countless individuals face the weight of suspended driver's licenses due to moving violations and unpaid fines. This cycle of punishment is preventing many from getting back to work, providing for their families, and contributing to their communities. We have an opportunity to bring about meaningful change by supporting SB339 and HB888.

Senate Bill 339 is a bi-partisan bill that curbs mandatory suspensions for driving while license revoked for moving violations, such as speeding during a period of suspension.   Senate Bill 339 would also end permanent suspensions for driving while license revoked.
House Bill 888 would end suspension of driver's licenses just because someone can't afford to pay a traffic ticket or misses a court date. The bi-partisan bill would help thousands of drivers get their license reinstated so they can get back on the road and back to work. The bill will also help create a text reminder system to keep people from missing future court dates.
Both bills are common-sense solutions that promote court efficiency with solutions for pandemic backlogs and address the millions of North Carolinians with indefinite driver's license suspensions due to missed court dates or unpaid fines and fees.

Help us prioritize and pass H888 and S339. They are good for our economy and our communities.
