Both nationally and in the state of Georgia, attacks against transgender youth and adults have been ramping up. The same anti-LGBTQ forces behind the passage of SB 140, the anti-trans medical ban which became law in 2023, have already pre-filed legislation for next year to ban transgender youth from using the school bathroom which aligns with their gender identity.

These pieces of legislation are shameless attacks on some of the more vulnerable folks in our community– those who identify as transgender or non-binary. Trans and non-binary people are human beings, who exist in every facet of our society, and have for years and years. These attacks seek to deny the humanity and existence of transgender individuals and must be rejected. Trans youth in particular– like all youth– need support and care. We must send a clear and unequivacol message to the trans community that their lives are valid and that they are equal members of their communities.
