I am writing today because I am concerned about the high rates of gun violence in the United States.

In 2023, 205 Texans were killed in intimate partner violence and more victims were killed by an abusive partner with a firearm than all other means combined. 20 perpetrators had identified firearm prohibitions. Loopholes in federal and state law leave guns in the hands of abusive partners and stalkers, often with lethal consequences.

According to the Texas Council on Family Violence, less than ten counties in Texas “have addressed firearm prohibitions through a structured firearm transfer protocol.” To protect domestic violence victims from gun violence, it's imperative that every Texas county implements clear firearm prohibition protocols. I ask that you support the fortification firearm relinquishment regulations and bolster funding for local communities to develop these protocols.

Please support measures that will enforce firearm prohibitions, hold prohibited possessors accountable, and fortify safety measures for survivors by developing or enhancing prohibition protocols.
