Tell Congress to pass the EQUAL Act!

35 years of a racist drug law is enough!

Crack and powder cocaine are the same drug, but people get very different sentences for them in federal courts. It's time for Congress to end unfair punishments for federal crack cocaine offenses by passing the EQUAL Act (S. 524/H.R. 1062).

Federal mandatory minimums require the same harsh prison terms for selling one amount of powder cocaine and for selling an amount of crack cocaine that is 18 times smaller. For 35 years, this sentencing disparity has disproportionately harmed Black communities and communities of color. Nearly 80 percent of people convicted of crack offenses are Black, making this a glaring example of racial discrimination in the criminal justice system. The arbitrary crack-powder distinction is unfair and hurts communities of color.

Email your Members of Congress today and urge them to pass the EQUAL Act!
