Call on the Pennsylvania Legislature to promote high school voter registration

PENNSYLVANIA VOTERS:

Call on your state representatives to allow young people to preregister to vote at age 16 and to create an option for same-day voter registration.

Friends,

We need your help today! Pennsylvania is one of a handful of states in which young people have less than a year in which to register to vote before they turn 18. Only a handful of states have such restrictive laws. The Pennsylvania Legislature is currently considering HB 1827, which will allow young people to preregister to vote as soon as they turn 16. Fifty percent of young people live in states where they can preregister to vote at age 16. The bill will also authorize same-day voter registration. Both reforms have the potential to dramatically improve rates of youth voter registration and political participation.

Preregistration will allow young people throughout the state to preregister while they are still in high school. This simple change paves the way for successful programs to increase youth participation and for young people to develop civic leadership skills in an educational setting that is open to all. Same-day voter registration is also an important reform to make it easier for young people to register, even as they are transitioning from high school to adult life.

Urge your representatives to pass HB 1827 to bring preregistration at 16 and same-day registration to Pennsylvania.

When you fill out the form below, you will be given the opportunity to voice your support for this measure and to call on your representatives to approve the bill.

Thank you for participating in this campaign.
