The BREATHE Act is a transformative bill from the Movement for Black Lives that would completely alter our criminal justice system. It would close all federal prisons and immigration detention centers. It would totally dismantle federal policing and incarceration and divest from policing at the state level. It would reallocate funds saved from closed prisons and greatly reduced police forces to the kinds of community and social programs that invest in Black communities.

Recognizing the connection between immigration detention centers and federal prisons, ICE and the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the increased militarization and surveillance roles of local police departments, the BREATHE Act would radically transform our criminal justice system.

The BREATHE Act would:
-	Divest federal resources from incarceration and policing and ending criminal legal system harms
-	Invest in new approaches to community safety utilizing funding incentives
-	Allocate new money to build healthy, sustainable and equitable communities for all people
-	Hold officials accountable and enhance the self-determination of Black communities

The bill would also end life sentences, abolish all mandatory minimum sentencing laws, and close all federal prisons and immigration detention centers. Please support the BREATHE Act and help us build a new vision of community safety grounded in what our families and communities need to thrive.
