Big Transportation News in Maryland

Support progressive transportation bills at the Maryland General Assembly. Additional funds for transportation should be matched with accountability and better land use.

Goverrnor Moore is proposing $420 million in new annual revenue sources, which would help fund some important maintenance and safety needs but also some ineffective highway expansion projects. That's why the bills below are even more important, to ensure all future spending is done wisely to support the state's goals for community revitalization, increasing transit ridership, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving access to jobs, and making our roads safer.

Weigh in and support these bills:

  • Transit-Oriented Development (HB 80 / SB 190) – MDOT's bill for state-owned land near rail stations. It also relieves new housing or mixed use development of parking mandates, and allows mixed use development within one half mile of a rail station.
  • Transportation Investment Priorities Act (HB 20 / SB 198) – MDOT's bill would ensure more cost-effective projects that support good land use, sustainability, equity, and access to jobs and services.
  • Transportation and Climate Alignment Act (HB 84 / SB 395) – This bill, supported by MDOT, would help Maryland meet its greenhouse gas reduction targets and provide affordable alternatives to driving.
  • Metro Funding Modification Act (HB 467 / SB 384) – Metro service today is faster, more frequent, and more reliable thanks to the 2018 capital funding deal. But unless we index the funding to inflation, it will fall short, risking declining reliability and safety.
  • Better biking, walking, safety for all (multiple bills) – These bills would make biking safer in Maryland: Bikes On Sidewalks (HB 375 / SB 392), Bicycle Safety Yield (HB 7), and Vulnerable Road User Enhanced Safety (HB 234/SB 385).
  • MARC Rail Authority Act of 2025 (HB 517 / SB 401) – This bill will help ensure a strong focus on modernization and improved operations for MARC.
  • Local Transit Sustainability Act (HB 432 / SB 20) – This bill ensures state funding for local bus systems like Ride On and The Bus, which are critical for people's access to jobs, education, health care, and daily needs.
