As Israel faces its most devastating security crisis in decades, the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) joins the entire Jewish community in grief and solidarity with Israel. Israel is still identifying its more than 1,200 dead and missing, including the 150 men, women and children being held hostage in Gaza. We at JDCA stand with all Israelis and share their pain following the largest single-day massacre of Jewish people since the Holocaust.

Yesterday, President Biden affirmed that “This attack has brought to the surface painful memories and the scars left by a millennia of antisemitism and genocide of the Jewish people.” He is absolutely right.

We are grateful for the unwavering support of Israel from Democratic leadership. President Biden, Senate Majority Leader Schumer, Democratic Leader Jeffries, and Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Gregory Meeks have each taken important steps in support of Israel. A few examples include:

• President Biden has moved two aircraft carriers to strengthen the United States' force posture in the region and deter Hezbollah and others from joining Hamas in the conflict;

• President Biden has spoken with Prime Minister Netanyahu each day of this conflict to coordinate Israel's defense needs;

• President Biden has spoken out numerous times to reiterate his ironclad support for Israel. As Michael Oren, Israel's former ambassador to the United States and a former member of Knesset from Netanyahu's Likud party, said, “President Biden's speech was the most passionately pro-Israel in history. The president stood four square behind the Jewish state and the Jewish people and unequivocally against terror and anti-Semitism, and pledged the power of the US to our defense. Our people will always remember and cherish this speech and the man who delivered it.”

• President Biden organized a response in coordination with our closest allies including the leaders of France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom decrying the attack by Hamas and rallying our allies to Israel's defense.

• Ranking Member Meeks co-led a powerful resolution affirming that the U.S. Congress stands with Israel against Hamas and is ready to assist Israel with emergency resupply and other security, diplomatic, and intelligence support.

• Majority Leader Schumer has spoken with Israeli leaders including President Herzog, Benny Gantz, and more as preparation to address Israel's vital security needs; Schumer has also spoken with officials around the world including China to rally support for Israel;

• Leader Jeffries committed to “do everything necessary to support Israel's effort to defeat the Hamas terrorists and their barbarity.”
