YOUTH EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMS
Program Time: 4:30pm - 6:30pm
Fall Session I Dates: Thursday August 17th 2023 - Friday September 22nd 2023.
 
*Programs are free for all youth and located at Hana Center 4300 N. California Ave, Chicago, IL 60618.

Monday + Thursday: K-pop Dance

This class teaches covers of famous K-POP dance choreography from your favorite idols. Enjoy fun routines and formations suitable for dancers of all levels and any K-pop enthusiasts! Starting with warm up and followed by choreography to K-pop dances by your favorite artists. Students will learn basic techniques and choreography as each section of the dance is broken down and performed slowly with a beat count. In this class, we will teach you the basic techniques at a comfortable pace

 

TUESDAY: Fighting Youth Shouting-Out For Humanity (FYSH)

FYSH is a social justice youth leadership council that focuses on creating positive systems-change that uplift the most vulnerable people in our communities. This fall FYSH will join the 33rd Ward Participatory Budget Youth Council. PB is a democratic process by which community members decide how to spend part of a public budget. Youth members will work together to generate ideas about infrastructure improvements they'd like to see in the 33rd Ward, then vote on which project they wish to see receive funding. 

 

WEDNESDAY: College + Career Counseling

Come in for homework assistance, use the art studio or computer lab, schedule one-on-one meetings for college and career planning. Learn about financial aid, scholarship opportunities, college applications, internships, fellowships and more. New and current youth members are also welcome to schedule a one-on-one meeting on Fridays to discuss how HANA Center can best support their needs.

 

FRIDAY: Women That Fight (WTF)

Women That Fight (WTF) is a healing space for women-identifying people of color. This group focuses on ways to advocate for themselves and others facing gender-based oppression. This is a youth led space that aims to challenge and push young women to think beyond the gender binary. This session WTF will expand on the participatory action research report on the topic of Girls of color's perspectives on sex education in Chicago Public Schools.
