We urge the Roanoke City Planning Commission and the Roanoke City Council to vote NO on adding the proposed Evans Spring commercial development plan to the 2040 Comprehensive Plan. Evans Spring currently provides critical ecosystem services that protects public health from extreme urban heat as well as protecting homes and property against flooding.
Roanoke has a glut of underutilized and vacant commercial and industrial areas - and the accompanying concrete and asphalt that traps heat and contributes to stormwater runoff. Roanoke City doesn't need more unnecessary, irresponsible development that degrades our environment and lowers our quality of life.
