Demand Congress Add Emergency Funding for Afghan Refugees to Budget Package
Four U.S. Presidents have presided over the War in Afghanistan over the past 20 years. The overwhelming majority of the American people agree--it is time for the war to end.
However, we cannot allow our exit from Afghanistan to leave innocent people, many of whom supported our efforts, subject to the cruelty and extremism of the Taliban.
Given our long standing involvement in Afghanistan and collaboration with the Afghan military, we have a moral imperative to accept as many Afghan refugees as quickly as possible. There is no time to waste: lives are on the line. We have an obligation to act now.
Democrats in Congress are discussing adding funding to the budget reconciliation package that will aid the resettlement process for Afghan refugees. In particular, the money would help to resettle Afghan allies of the U.S., alongside women and children.
The Jewish Democratic Council of America strongly supports these efforts. It has been a longstanding Jewish tradition and value to welcome the stranger, protect refugees, and safeguard human life, and we support such assistance to resettle Afghan refugees.
