Sign the Petition: Call on Congress to Save Clean Energy

At the end of May, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill that would repeal the clean energy tax credits passed in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). Now, the fate of these tax credits moves to the U.S. Senate. As more communities across the country experience harm caused by increased flooding, fires, and drought –  we know investing in clean energy is a moral imperative to address the urgency of the climate crisis. Protecting clean energy tax credits passed under the IRA allows churches to live out their values to care for their communities and all of Creation.

Petition to Members of Congress:

As a Christian, I believe we have a moral responsibility to care for our communities and our neighbors. Repealing the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) clean energy tax credits will endanger jobs, stop clean energy development, and stall clean energy projects in thousands of communities across the nation. These investments in clean transportation, energy efficiency for buildings and home appliances, and rapidly growing energy sources like solar and wind, are lowering consumer energy costs, reducing air pollution and associated health challenges, and cutting down on pollution that is worsening the climate crisis and fueling extreme weather.

Congregations like mine are excited to put our faith into action by investing in energy improvements and accessing programs like Direct Pay, and helping individual households make these changes too. The Direct Pay provisions have empowered Christian communities to make investments that not only reduce their energy costs but also free up resources to expand the vital spiritual and material services they provide to their communities; services like education, food distribution, child care, and more. Without these credits, many faith institutions will be forced to choose between long-term investments and paying higher electricity bills.

Taking away clean energy means more pollution, more weather disasters, and higher energy costs for American consumers. Caring for our neighbors and our communities means preserving jobs, keeping utility bills low for all households and ensuring a safer climate. IRA programs and tax credits are helping Christian communities care for God's Creation. We call on Congress to choose a future of clean energy so that all of Creation can thrive.

Thank you.
