ACT NOW: Ban Horse Slaughter in the United States

Each year, tens of thousands of American horses are brutally slaughtered for human consumption in Canada and Mexico, and the meat is sent overseas to foreign countries. These horses suffer long journeys without adequate food, water, or rest to slaughter plants where they meet a brutal and terrifying end.

While we've managed to keep horse slaughter plants closed in the U.S., we must now stop the export of horses across the border for slaughter. These animals have stood by us throughout history as our companions, partners in work and sport, and are cherished symbols of the West. To slaughter them is a complete betrayal.

Fortunately, the Save America's Forgotten Equines (SAFE) Act has been introduced in the U.S. House and Senate to permanently prevent horse slaughter plants from opening in the U.S. and to end the current export of American horses for slaughter abroad.

Please take a moment to tell your two U.S. Senators and your one U.S. Representative to cosponsor the SAFE Act to end horse slaughter once and for all!

1. Call the Capitol Hill Switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask to be connected to your U.S. Representative and two U.S. Senators. You will likely be asked to leave a message. Simply say:

“I'm a constituent, and I'm calling to ask you to please co-sponsor the Save America's Forgotten Equines (SAFE) Act (H.R. 3355/S. 2732) and do all you can to pass this bill. Horses and burros deserve to be protected from the cruel, predatory horse slaughter industry.”

2. Follow your call up with a personalized email to your legislators.
