We urgently need your support to oppose SB 1717 by Sen. Hensley which will be voted on in the Senate Transportation and Safety Committee on Wednesday, March 13, 2024. Known as the English-Only Driver's License Bill, this bill seeks to eliminate the limited language options for driver's license tests.
In Tennessee, residents currently have the option to take the test in English, Spanish, German, Japanese, and Korean. However, these languages are not fully representative of our diverse population and are a violation of our civil rights to language access - the right of non-English speakers to have meaningful access to public services at the same level as English speakers.
The last three languages were added a decade ago when corresponding automotive plants arrived. It's time for a change. Join the Our State, Our Languages Coalition (OSOL) in advocating for a more inclusive and representative system.
Take action now! Contact your legislators and urge them to oppose SB1717.
*Please note that only constituents whose elected officials serve on the Senate Transportation and Safety Committee will be able to complete the action alert.
