Tell GOP Leadership to Stop Stalling on Iron Dome Funding

On September 23, 2021, the U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly (420-9-2) passed legislation providing $1 billion in supplemental funding for Israel's Iron Dome, a crucial life-saving defensive shield that protects innocent civilians from rocket attacks. Despite having the support of all 50 Senators in the Democratic Caucus, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) is blocking this critical aid to Israel for his own political purposes and Senate Republicans are doing nothing to help Democrats move this legislation forward.

Senator Paul's delaying tactics are holding up vital security assistance to Israel. This funding is needed to replenish the Iron Dome system following the May 2021 conflict between Israel and Hamas. In the May 2021 conflict alone, the Iron Dome stopped 90% of the 4,400 rockets Hamas shot from Gaza that posed a threat to Israeli and Palestinian lives and infrastructure. JDCA was proud to support this funding when it recently passed in the House because it's critical to ensuring Israel's security and right to self-defense.

Democrats have asked for unanimous consent to pass this bill three times, and each time Senator Paul has objected. Also each time, every single Republican senator was silent except for Senator Paul, who articulated his stauch opposition. At this critical time, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and other Republican leaders should pressure Senator Paul to lift his hold and move this legislation forward.
