Send an email to the Commissioner of Education

As parents, you have a clear understanding of the importance of your children recieving Sexual Health Education in school!

Send an email to Florida Commissioner of Education, Manny Diaz and ask him to move forward with the process to allow schools to provide Sexual Health Education. There has been significant delay in the proess since the Florida Department of Education has taken over the review and approval of sexual health curricula. This is troubling for Florida youth given the rise in new STI and HIV infections.

Dear Commissioner Diaz,

As a concerned parent, I am reaching out to you on behalf of the Florida Healthy Youth Alliance (FHYA), a coalition advocating for sexual health education in our public schools. We represent a diverse group of parents, educators, medical professionals, and researchers who are deeply invested in the well-being of our children. I am deeply concerned about the delayed response from the Florida Department of Education (DOE) in defining age and developmentally appropriate sexual health education and releasing information on the process for review and approval of the sexual health curricula. It has come to my attention that school districts were required to submit their curricula by the end of September 2023, yet as of March 1st, none have received feedback or guidance on next steps.

As parents, we cannot afford to wait any longer for our children to receive the vital information and support they need to navigate their sexual health responsibly. We urge you to take immediate action on this matter and prioritize the well-being of Florida's youth. Thank you for your attention to this urgent issue. We eagerly anticipate your swift response and decisive action in support of our children.

Sincerely, [Your information here]
