LIPS 2025 Cohort Application Due Date: December 29, 2024
Latinas Increasing Political Strength (LIPS) is a leadership institute designed for Latinas, by Latinas. Our goal is to empower young people into taking action on issues they care about. The program is open to femmes and gender-expansive 16-21 years old in the Denver metro area, and engages participants in a vibrant community of activists.
We meet at our office in dowtown Denver roughly every Saturday from January to March 2025, with additional advocacy events and leadership opportunities throughout. You will learn how culture and politics affect our lives, what it takes to change lives and laws, and all about reproductive justice and how it affects your personal freedoms and opportunities. LIPS participants will be paired up with designated Latine mentors who are in the career fields of their interest to provided added support and will contribute to professional development.
At the end of the program, we travel to Washington D.C. to put those skills to use lobbying federal legislators and advocate for issues impacting their communities. LIPS participants will also have the opportunity to participate in sponsored activities with COLOR's national partners based in Washington D.C.
COLOR is committed to keeping LIPS accessible and there is no up-front cost to attending LIPS. However, during the program we ask that each participant commit to fundraising less than $200 from their community by working with the LIPS facilitator and other LIPS members to put on a fundraiser. Ample support will be given throughout the program to ensure participants have the tools they need to succeed at this task.
