GEORGIA: Demand Accountability for Palestinians & Emory

Yesterday, Atlanta Police and Georgia State Patrol violently assaulted and arrested Emory students and faculty peacefully protesting Israeli apartheid. This past Sunday, the Georgia congressional delegation voted overwhelmingly to send $17 billion to Israel for weapons arming genocide - double the funding for aid to support Palestinians facing famine.

We are appalled by the use of state sponsored violence on Emory's campus and horrified by the actions of Atlanta Police and Georgia State Patrol who used brutal police tactics such as repeatedly tasing an Emory student who was already handcuffed and forcibly held down by multiple officers and arresting Professor Caroline Folin after she was violently thrown to the ground for daring to question police violence against peaceful protesters on a private campus.

In the last 24 hours, we've seen Georgia politicians at the national level not only remain silent on the state violence inflicted on students and faculty protesting peacefully but actively cheer on these abuses. We condemn this hateful rhetoric, which further incites state violence and makes a mockery of the notion that he represents University of Georgia students.

We demand accountability from our Members of Congress and invite Georgians to join us in asking our elected officials to publicly call for an immediate end to the genocide in Gaza, a thorough and transparent investigation into police violence at Emory, and full protections of our right to protest.
