As outlined in an article (Child Baker Acts on the rise: Are we listening?[i]) published by the Hernando Sun on February 19, 2019, Hernando County does not have a Crisis Stabilization and Rehab Facility (CSR) that is required to provide emergency mental health service for children who are detained under the Baker Act and Substance Abuse Act.
Children who require emergency mental health services in Hernando County are transported to the closest facility which has an open bed with the closest in Ocala and have been transported to over one hundred miles outside the county.
I support NAMI Hernando's position in favor of our community developing and maintaining a CSR facility and adequate support staff for the following reasons:
