UU the Vote 2020
Vote Love in 2020

Bottom-line, our democracy is in crisis because of white supremacy and capitalism.

While this crisis did not begin in 2016 or 2020, the current administration will not stop its campaign to dismantle every safeguard our justice movements have fought for over the past 100 hundred years.

Electoral organizing and this political moment is not without its complexities and contradictions. We hold those tensions and commit to using every tool, including the ballot in our movements toward justice in 2020.

We need ALL OF US to join in the work to call forth a new political reality where there is enough common ground to continue to build on the legacies of justice movements in which UU the Vote is rooted. Recognizing that the stakes are different?, especially for people targeted by white supremacy & capitalism, we all must discern our rise and role in this work.

When we're living out our values together, we have so much more power. We are all we have AND we are all we need.

We must do all that we can--the risky, the uncomfortable, the loving, the caring, and even the mundane and ordinary actions to move forward towards our collective liberation.

We are calling on all Unitarian Universalists to live out the radical politics of our faith and pledge to #VoteLove in 2020.

I pledge to mobilize the electorate and UUs, understanding that we are unequivocally:

I pledge to #DefeatHate at the polls and join in solidarity with all those who resist:

  • Authoritarianism & Fascism
  • Systemic Racism & Colonialism
  • Criminalization
  • Extractive Capitalism
  • White Supremacy & White Nationalism
  • Environmental exploitation

I pledge to take actions and invite people to actions towards that end. Specifically I pledge to:

  • Act local alongside candidates and issues that have direct and material impacts on the communities in which I have declared political solidarity with.
  • Get Out the Vote through phonebanks, text banks, postcards, and voter registration.
  • Have values-based conversations with my community and networks about my values and what I am voting for in 2020.
  • Participate in learning and political education to responsible and effectively  engage and organize in anti-racist and pro-democracy movements.
  • Share my resources with people and communities most deeply impacted by the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and the decades long campaign of voter suppression.
  • Turn out with resources, time & support to fight against authoritarianism and in support of communities of Color, poor people, people with disabilities, immigrants, Trans and Queer people in my congregation and community following the election.
  • Vote!

*We recognize that there are systemic inequalities that create obstacles to taking all of these actions. While we call on all to stretch themselves beyond comfort-zones, we also call on you to personally and ethically discern your role and level of activity.
