Off Highway Vehicles Impacts Monitoring Report

If you see something, say something!

OPhoto of Allee Gustafson on a muddy area created by off road vehicles in the forest that used to be a meadow.ver the years, some of the unique, protected botanical areas in the Klamath-Siskiyou have been subject to damage from Off Highway Vehicles (OHVs), contributing to the degradation of vegetation, compaction of soil, and spoiling the experience for visitors to these beautiful and special places on public lands.  The muddy area in the photo you see used to be a meadow!

Specific locations that we would like to hear about, each location you can click on for more information:

How to monitor public lands and what you're looking for:

  • We are looking for any signs of vehicles going off-road into the botanical area.
  • Also keep an eye out for abandoned cars, trash piles, and fire rings outside of designated areas.
  • Get out of your car and walk around the meadows looking for evidence of vehicles going off the road (tire marks and tread in the dirt).
  • Be sure to monitor and walk the entire fence line of buck and rail fencing and report any repairs if needed.
  • Take photos of all of the above and send them to allee@kswild.org.

Trip Planning Before You Go:

  • Bring a hard copy map of the area. Purchase one from any Forest Service Office or Ranger Station.
  • Tell someone where/when you are going or email: allee@kswild.org.
  • Have plenty of water and food.
  • Budget your time well.
  • Implement Leave-no-trace practices.
  • Have a full tank of gas.

Thank you again for volunteering your time! Please let us know if you have any questions via allee@kswild.org or by calling 541-488-5789 x1014.
