Support Collective Bargaining Rights for Essential Prince William County Employees!

The Prince William County Board of Supervisors is discussing whether or not to pass a collective bargaining ordinance that will give essential county employees a real seat at the table to negotiate for better jobs and services in our community.

Let's show the Board that our community supports essential county workers having a meaningful voice to negotiate for the things they need to serve our community and take care of their own families.

I support meaningful collective bargaining

Dear [elected official],

As a member of the Prince William County community, I’m writing to let you know that I support meaningful collective bargaining for our dedicated county employees, which includes: •Rights for ALL of our county workers (including employees in every department with and without benefits). Do not divide workers. •Bargaining over all working conditions. County employees need a say in subjects like staffing, scheduling, discipline and more. Currently, these and other important topics are excluded from bargaining under the draft ordinance. •County employees need an effective way to enforce contract language and ensure their rights are being respected, including binding arbitration for non-economic issues and non-binding arbitration for all matters affecting the budget. Other ordinances across Virginia include this provision. Why do county employees not deserve the same? •The right for workers to communicate and meet with each other about working conditions and union-related activities. Workers need to be able to communicate with each other and facilitate the broadest possible participation in their union. Our community’s county employees -- mental health workers, first responders, librarians, and so many more -- kept us healthy, safe and moving forward during this pandemic. They need and deserve meaningful collective bargaining to keep themselves and their families healthy and safe, as well. The reason that so many of us choose to live and work in Prince William County is that we appreciate the excellent services provided by our public employees. As a community member, I’m uplifting the changes called for by our frontline workers. Strengthening the three elements I listed above will ensure that workers will have the strong rights they need to continue to serve our community safely and securely during challenging times. Let’s make this happen. Thank you.

Sincerely, [Your information here]
