The student movement for Palestinian liberation has entered into a new and powerful phase. Over the past month courageous students at colleges and universities across the country set up encampments and liberated zones, refusing to be moved or silenced until their institution ends its complicity in the genocide being committed by Israel in Gaza.
The backlash to these protests is at a scale not seen since the anti-war protests of the 1960s, with universities working with law enforcement to bring the full power of the state down on our students. Columbia, Emory, and UT Austin, among others, have called police in riot gear to break up the encampments, brutalizing the students as they go. Students are facing disciplinary action like suspension and expulsion and sometimes even criminal charges.
ADC has answered the call of several students for legal support against repression and discrimination by their universities, and more support is needed.
To respond to unprecedented needs during this moment, ADC has established an emergency fund to protect the civil rights liberties of our students and to bring the full range of legal support they need as they risk their education and bodies to stand up for Gaza. Since establishing the fund ADC has been able to expand the Legal Department, and provide services to students across the country.
This fund enables ADC to serve the needs of our students, vindicate their rights, and ensure their safety across American college and university campuses.
