The New Internationalism Project focuses on education, activism ,and advocacy to shift U.S. policies away from militarism and towards the goals of human rights, equality for all, and peace with justice. The project also works to challenge U.S. domination of the United Nations, and to help democratize and empower the global organization in its fight for peace and human rights

New Internationalism refers to the combination of foreign policies based on international law, human rights and equality for all, linked with the power of global social movements? and [sometimes] progressive governments and the UN, in fighting against wars, occupations and empire. In the Middle East, the project is working to end U.S. wars in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Libya and beyond, and ending U.S. support for the Israeli occupation of Palestine. In all these arenas, the projects works with partner organizations who are organizing, mobilizing and building movements in the U.S. and globally, to challenge U.S. power and to support those fighting for justice in the Middle East.

Project Director Phyllis Bennis has been an irreplaceable public scholar at IPS for more than 20 years. Her analysis of current developments of US wars, and across the Middle East and beyond is always clear, accessible and principled. Michael Ratner Middle East Fellow Khury Peterson-Smith joined IPS almost two years ago, and already is writing and speaking widely, and playing important roles in key movements. Both of them spend much of their time writing, and on the road speaking across the country and around the world. They provide inspiration and talking points for grassroots groups from small local peace and justice collectives to national campaigns. Phyllis & Khury's partnership is helping to build and strengthen movements for Palestinian rights, protection of refugees and migrants, slashing the military budget, and much more.
