In 2023, let's do this! Let's pass the Minnesota Equal Rights Amendment Bill this legislative session and ratify it in the 2024 election. Equal rights can be be protected as a Minnesota constitutional right by the end of 2024! The 2023 MINNESOTA STATE EQUAL RIGHTS AMENDMENT BILL: Equality under the law shall not be abridged or denied by this state or any of its cities, counties, or other political subdivisions on account of race, color, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, ancestry, or national origin. How can it become an amendment to the Minnesota Constitution? The chief authors of the 2023 state equal rights amendment are Senator Mary Kunesh and Representative Kaohly Herr. Their goal, and ours, is to have the legislation passed through the state legislature in the 2023-2024 session, so that it could be on the ballot for the 2024 election. If a majority of voters vote "Yes" to ratify the amendment, it takes effect immediately. But wait, isn't there a federal equal rights law? True. It reads, “Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.” However, it still is not an official amendment to the Constitution. While all of the constitutional requirements have been satisfied, there are technicalities and various legal arguments which have served as road blocks to final publication. Therefore, Senators Sandy Pappas and Representative Kristin Bahner have authored the 2023 MINNESOTA FEDERAL ERA RESOLUTION TO CONGRESS: What can we do?
