Providence: Protect Your Frontline, Not Your Bottom Line!

We, the caregivers of Providence and UFCW 21 union members, request that Providence be transparent regarding their finances and budget. Currently at the bargaining tables we have heard Providence claim that due to budgetary constraints they cannot continue certain economic practices which acknowledges and rewards the hard work of caregivers. We are risking our lives every day to care for our communities and often without the staff and protections needed to safely take care of patients and ourselves.

Providence has received COVID-19 relief money, has billions of dollars in cash reserves, and is running two venture Capital firms in Seattle. It's clear their eyes are on the bottom line, not the workers that care for our communities.

Given the lack of transparency with finances, we ask that Providence:

1) Respond to the Union's information requests including the amount of COVID-19 relief funds awarded and how they are being used including:

  • Amount and type of PPE available at each Hospital

  • Providence's detailed financial reports for each Hospital

  • Mergers and acquisitions within the Providence system

  • Explanation of Providence's community benefits practice and where this money originates from

  • Debt collection practices

2) Protect the front-line by making proposals and incentives, like extra shift bonuses, that respect the care we give every day to our patients, communities, and loved ones.

In your own words...

We're fighting for transparency at the bargaining table and in the halls of Olympia. We will not stop until we get transparency. Lawmakers need to understand the work we do and the importance of fiscal transparency. Please share your experiences below and we will pass your comments along to lawmakers. Your bargaining team may share powerful examples at the table to win a fair contract.
