Send an email to DOE Commissioner

As education, medical, and reserach professionals, your have a clear understanding of the importance of students recieving Sexual Health Education in school!

Send an email to Florida Commissioner of Education, Manny Diaz and ask him to move forward with the process to allow schools to provide Sexual Health Education. There has been significant delay in the proess since the Florida Department of Education has taken over the review and approval of sexual health curricula. This is troubling for Florida youth given the rise in new STI and HIV infections.

Dear Commissioner Diaz,

We are writing to you on behalf of the Florida Healthy Youth Alliance (FHYA), a statewide coalition of education, medical, and research professionals committed to providing medically accurate, age and developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed, and culturally inclusive sexual health education in public schools. We are deeply concerned about the delayed response from the Florida Department of Education (DOE) in defining age and developmentally appropriate sexual health education and releasing information on the process of reviewing sexual health curricula. It has come to our attention that school districts were required to submit their curricula by the end of September 2023, yet as of March 1st, none have received feedback or guidance on next steps.

We urge you to take immediate action to expedite the process of approving sexual health education curricula and providing guidance to school districts. Our students cannot afford to wait any longer for the critical information and support they need to protect themselves and lead healthy lives. Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. We look forward to your prompt response and action on behalf of Florida's youth.

Sincerely, [Your information here]
