Dear Senator Murray, Senator Cantwell, and Representative McMorris Rodgers,
We, the undersigned, express our deep heartbreak for and denounce the U.S. role in the ongoing mass violence and humanitarian crises in Palestine/Israel, Lebanon, Yemen, and Iraq. As we reflect on one year of genocide, we mourn the 42,612 lives that have been taken by the Israeli military in the war on Gaza and the West Bank as well as the 10,000 people that are still missing and unaccounted for by their loved ones, the 100,000 people who have been wounded, and the millions that have been forcibly displaced. We also grieve the vast cropland, hospitals, homes, and commercial buildings that have been damaged and destroyed. As the recent expansion of Israeli government and military attacks on southern Lebanon, we write to you today with urgency to say loud and clear - This violence must stop!
We call upon your office to take urgent action for:
- A comprehensive permanent ceasefire in Palestine/Israel and Lebanon
- Ensuring the protection of civilians and their access to humanitarian aid
- A hostage/prisoners' exchange
- An end to U.S. military aid to Israel and U.S. military action in the region
A renewed ceasefire agreement holds the potential to safeguard Palestinian, Israeli, and Labanese lives and protect U.S. soldiers by significantly reducing tensions across the region. We view these as necessary first steps, designed to prevent the loss of more lives and to lay the groundwork for comprehensive negotiations aimed at ending Israel's apartheid regime and illegal occupation and recognizing Palestinians' right to self-determination.
No one's lasting safety can be achieved through the suppression and suffering of any other group of people. We must reject antisemitism, Islamophobia, anti-Muslim racism, and all ideologies which dehumanize or denigrate any part of our human family. It is our firm belief that sustainable peace can only be achieved through diplomatic dialogue, respect for human rights, and the pursuit of just and equitable solutions.
As your constituents, we call on you to use the power of your elected office to foster a future where the people of Palestine/Israel, Lebanon, Yemen, and Iraq can rebuild their lives in security and prosperity.
Thank you for your attention to this pressing matter, and we eagerly await your response and action to fulfill these requests.
