Make sure your favorite swim spot in the summer is safe by checking Swim Guide results. Swim Guide is an international program used by Riverkeepers and other advocates to provide up-to-date recreational E. coli (bacteria) data for beaches, lakes, and rivers around the world. Samples are collected every Wednesday from Memorial Day to Labor Day. When you sign up to become a Swim Guide volunteer, our staff will email you to determine the site most convenient for you. You will pick up your sampling bottle(s) at the office in Boone, NC, and then collect surface water samples in a 100mL sample bottle. Once your sample has been collected, you drop off the sample bottle(s) at the office in the refrigerator to be processed by staff. Pass/Fail results are updated every Friday on www.swimguide.org to inform the public about local water quality.
