Help us sustain our Transitional Housing Program!

The Transgender Emergency Fund (TEF) was founded in 2008 by Jesse Pack, a transman who saw a need for an emergency mutual aid fund for low income and un-housed trans individuals across the state. In 2020 TEF grew from serving 20 people a year to serving over 150 people a year with a growing staff, support groups and retreats. TEF conducted a housing survey to better inform our work to end trans homelessness, surveying 51 applicants who've experienced housing insecurity. We found that a majority of applicants who attempted to access traditional housing programs experienced harassment by shelter staff or residents. To meet the needs highlighted in community assessment we launched the TEF Transitional Housing Program, created for trans folk by trans folk.

The Transitional Housing Program opened in May of 2022 and has housed 21 people so far, helping 11 people secure permanent housing. People may stay rent free for up to one year and must demonstrate that they are saving money to transition to permanent housing. Our hope is that during a year of stable housing residents are able to work toward achieving their goals, feel empowered and connected to the trans community.
