Support an Affordable Heat Act that Works for All Vermonters

In Vermont's harsh winters, we all deserve a warm place to live. That means reliably affordable heating and energy-efficient homes - especially for working families.

The Affordable Heat Act can weatherize homes in our most vulnerable communities, lower heating costs, create local green jobs, and help Vermont transition to a strong and sustainable economy. But utility companies and their allies are pushing back and pressuring our legislators to slip in loopholes to protect their bottom line.

Join us in urging Vermont legislators to support an Affordable Heat Act that prioritizes renters and homeowners - not corporate profits and polluting fossil fuels and biofuels. Add your name to show your support for a policy that:

  • Ensures low-income Vermonters, including renters, have priority access to, and financing for, affordable energy and heat reduction initiatives such as geothermal and other thermal networked energy, heat pumps, and weatherization.

  • Prioritizes the health of frontline communities by phasing out biofuels as a clean alternative.

  • Supports geothermal and other thermal networked energy as an alternative to fossil fuels for heating and cooling that will help keep costs down.

  • Includes frontline community members (renters and current energy assistance  beneficiaries) in the Clean Heat Equity Advisory Group to oversee the implementation of this bill.

Without these important provisions, Vermonters who are already struggling to pay their heating bills will end up paying more for this transition away from fossil fuels. Let's demand a just transition that doesn't sacrifice affordability for the most vulnerable Vermonters.
