This threatens to increase HOA fees by over $125/mo, and is putting many families at risk of bankruptcy and foreclosure.

I urge you to pass HOA assistance and property insurance reform

Dear [elected official],

Florida homeowners, Home Owner Associations (HOAs) and Condo Owner Associations (COAs) are in the middle of a crisis. Property insurance premiums are up 40% across the state, and this is causing HOAs/COAs to raise their fees by similar amounts. Some HOAs/COAs, like Town Park Plaza North in Overtown, are experiencing rate hikes of 72%! This is crushing for low-income homeowners in rapidly gentrifying neighborhoods, and renters are feeling the pain in the form of higher rents as well. Citizens has requested a 50% increase for investment properties, and this will be devastating for renters living in those properties! And 2024 is predicted to be even WORSE! But your office can absolutely take action to protect your homeowners and tenants. We have two requests: 1. Create an immediate relief package that HOAs/COAs can use to cover budget gaps created by property insurance premium increases, giving residents relief from fee increases. 2. Petition the state to reform property insurance in Florida. Put all options on the table to give homeowners actual affordable options in the marketplace, and use the power of the state to secure those policies.
