TELL THE BLM ADVISORY BOARD: WILD HORSE MANAGEMENT MUST CHANGE

I ask the Bureau of Land Management's National Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board to recommend;

  • An immediate halt to the Adoption Incentive Program and a proper investigation conducted to prevent wild horses and burros from suffering more abuse or slaughter.
  • Prosecution of individuals and organizations who have violated AIP contracts and knowingly sold wild horses and burros to livestock/slaughter auctions.
  • A moratorium on roundups to limit horses entering holding facilities while meaningful humane fertility control is implemented to slow population growth on the range.
  • A call to BLM to pursue management strategies in line with the 2022 appropriations ask for a dedicated $11 million in funding for PZP fertility control.
  • Re-evaluation of the BLM's arbitrary "Appropriate Management Levels" for wild horses and burros.
  • The adjustment of livestock forage allocation within Herd Management Areas to prioritize wild horses and burros.
  • Encouragement to BLM to seek options to retire livestock grazing allotments through compensation or other means in Herd Management Areas.
